Waterfalls
If you come in my office at work, you will see a framed picture of a waterfall. It's actually the double waterfall from Fantasy Island. We took the picture when we were in Hawaii. I have other waterfall pictures in my house and if you look at my facebook page, you will see lots of waterfall pictures. It's obvious that I love waterfalls.
Who hasn't heard of Niagara Falls? We went there a few years ago and visited both the Canada side and the US side. The Canadian side is much better and it's worth it to get your passport so you can see both sides. My only disappointment with Niagara Falls was that there was no opportunity to go hiking. Don't get me wrong, the falls is incredible and we had a great time but for me, the enjoyment comes from the hike. It's just not the same if you don't have to work for the reward of seeing the falls.
If you read my blog, you know all about our incredible hike to Havasu Falls located in a remote area of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Havasu Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world and worth every minute of the 10-mile one way strenuous hike to get there and the even harder hike to get back out. You have to earn the right to see this beautiful waterfall which is why I loved it. Look at that aqua blue water! It's incredible. This picture was taken at the top of the falls but we were also able to go down into the water where Mike went swimming (in October). I really wish you could experience this waterfall. It's amazing!
When Mike and I decided to go to Hawaii for our 30th wedding anniversary, the first thing I did when planning our trip was to look for waterfalls which is why we decided on Kauai instead of one of the other islands We enjoyed seeing several waterfalls in Kauai but the best one was the one we had to work the hardest to see -- an 8 miles hike. I didn't know it at the time but the Kalalau Trail to this waterfall is one of "America's 10 Most Dangerous Hikes." People have actually fallen off the trail. The hike was dangerous for us because we left out water in the car. It was so bad that we had to ask someone for water to share with us because otherwise I was not going to make it out of there. We survived (barely) and enjoyed an amazing waterfall where Mike went swimming in the really cold water. When I look back on this hike, I remember how incredibly difficult it was but how it was worth every sweat and every pain we experienced. We could barely walk the next day after this hike, we were so sore.
Who doesn't love a good waterfall? Maybe it's the sound of the water or maybe its the thrill of the hike. Whatever it is, I am one those of people who loves a good waterfall. I believe there will be a waterfall in heaven. I have no scripture to back it up but if people can believe there will be animals in heaven, I can believe there will be a waterfall -- there may even be more than one.
The next waterfall on our vacation planning list is Yosemite Falls. We won't be going this year but we hope to go soon. I can't wait to go hiking in Yosemite National Park. There are many great waterfalls right in our backyard, in the Great Smoky Mountains. No matter where you live, I bet you can find waterfalls to visit. Search the internet and find them then Get Out and Enjoy!
Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breaker have swept over me. ~Psalm 42:7
