Let's Talk Church Again

If you read my previous blog, "Let"s Talk Church," you know I was pretty discouraged about church. I wrote that post on a Sunday morning when Mike went to church and I stayed home. I had gotten to the point where I was going through the motions and my church joy was gone. After a few years of feeling like we were just wandering in the desert, I had given up. Since that post, God has done some crazy good things and I just want to give you an update so you can see how God is working.

Three weeks after that post, on a Sunday morning, we were faced again with the decision of where to worship or if we were going anywhere. On Facebook (God can use Facebook for good), I saw a post that Brad Raby who we knew from NorthStar Church was joining the staff at Fellowship Pellissippi and would be preaching that Sunday. Why not? We had no place we had to be so we gave it a try.  After the service, held at Karns High School, we talked about how much we enjoyed it and what we had learned from it. Believe me, this was not a conversation we had been having after church. We were both in agreement that we should go back and I was beginning to get excited about church again!

Since then, we attended our first Life Group meeting where Mike and I both comfortable enough to talk and to share within the group. The funny thing is that most couples in the group are a lot younger than us (I'm talking, young enough to be our children) which we decided is a good thing -- they may want to go hiking with us!!! I had an opportunity to attend a women's event on a topic I love -- Healthy Living: Nutritional, Physical, and Spiritual Health. And I've registered for an overnight women's retreat. We're very excited about how God is leading and beginning to connect us with a church body.

If you remember from my previous post, I talked about how I think we spend too much time sitting on a church pew instead of serving out in the community. I talked about a church in Nashville that closes its doors periodically on Sunday morning to serve in the inner city. Well guess what!?!?! Fellowship Pellissippi closes it's doors every 5th Sunday to get out into the community to serve. I am so excited!!!! How many churches do this? And we found one that does!!!

One more thing I want to share about how God is working, has to do with missions. Several months ago, I decided to give a week's vacation to the Lord. With Mike's new job, I have more vacation time than he does. We talked about it and I became very open to the possibility of going on a mission trip. When it was announced at Fellowship Pellissippi that a group would be going to Nicaragua for a week the end of June, I just couldn't ignore it. Even though I'm not sure yet because I'm coming up with lots of excuses, I really think God is leading me to go on my first mission trip. I'm still praying and waiting, and will give an update on this later.

God has shown me so much these last few months. I am so thankful for answered prayer and look forward to what God has for us at Fellowship Pellissippi Church where we will continue to Gather, Grow, and Serve . . . Doing it all for the glory of God!

And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.  ~Heb. 10:24-25
